Gannon doubted Delphine was aware that the words he’d just said were the most serious he’d spoken to any woman. They had been heartfelt, sincere and truthful because he knew of no other way to be with her. Whether she realized it or accepted it, something was going on between them. Something powerful. He couldn’t stop it and doubted neither could she.

“That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.”

Her words hit a nerve. Ridiculous? His jaw twitched in anger. “Do you honestly think I want to feel that way? That I want to believe there’s a woman somewhere who exists for me? A woman for me to claim? Then let me set the record straight. I’ve never been into claiming women, just enjoying sex with them. But for some reason, you’re different. You make me feel things, want things, need things, and I don’t like it. I liked the path my life was taking before you came along just fine.”

Gannon watched Delphine angrily cross her arms over her chest. “Then why change it?” she snapped.

“Because of you. Can you honestly say you can’t feel the vibes we generate? That you don’t think something strong is happening between us?”

He watched as she nibbled her lips and his gut clenched. At least he had her thinking.

“All I’m asking is a chance for us to determine why we are drawn together like we are. I’m not asking you to go with me on the road for a sexathon. I want you to go because I truly want you with me, to share that side of myself with you. Namely, my love for the road. It has nothing to do with the interview, but with me. I’ve never wanted to share myself that way with any woman.”

“I think you’re just confused, Gannon.”

“Then unconfuse me. I honestly meant what I said about needing to make sure that you aren’t the woman meant to be in my future.”

“Trust me, I’m not.”

“Then prove it, Delphine. While we are together, I don’t plan to pressure you into doing anything you don’t want to do. Any ground rules or limitations you set I will abide by.”

He knew he could say that because the force of passion between them was so strong, there was no way they could spend time together and not share intimacy. According to his now married brothers, intimacy was one of the purest displays of love between a couple.

He swallowed deeply, wondering how and when that one single word had entered the equation. But he couldn’t worry about that now. Gannon saw from the bemused expression in her eyes that he needed to make her understand and he would use a new angle to do so.

“And didn’t you say you wanted to experience different things? Adventure? To tap into your wanderlust side?”

She hesitated a second, then said, “Yes, I said that, too.”
